When Is Branch Removal Necessary?

There are many situations in which it may be necessary to remove a tree branch. The first and foremost reason is when a tree branch poses a risk to the health and safety of those in the immediate area, due to hanging low or having sharp edges.

You may also need to have a tree branch removed if it endangers the health of the rest of the tree, due to a fungal infection or wood rot.

If you're concerned that you may need a tree branch removing, simply reach out to someone from the Branch Manager Tree Services team. We'll be happy to provide advice.

Why Hire A Professional Arborist?

Tree branch removal should never be attempted by someone who doesn't know what they're doing, especially if the targeted tree branch is at a great height.

Hiring a tree branch removal expert affords you the peace of mind that the job will be done correctly and safely.

Enlisting the services of a professional tree branch removal company also reduces the risk of damaging the rest of the tree - a consequence that is very common if the removal is done by someone without formal training in the practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I get professionals to remove tree branches?

    • This process can be complex and challenging, plus, when you are working at heights, it can be dangerous. You don't want to risk injury or damage to your property (or your neighbour's property), so enlisting the help of professionals is always advised.
    • Professional tree loppers have the training, experience and qualifications required to inspect a tree and determine a safe way to remove any branches that have to go. They also have the right safety equipment and commercial tools that will get the job done efficiently and effectively.
    • A reputable tree removal company will also have public liability insurance, so in the unlikely event that something goes wrong, you will be covered.
  • Can I have overhanging branches from my neighbour's tree removed?

    • One of the leading causes of neighbourhood disputes in Queensland involves the management of trees, so it is important to tread carefully here. In Queensland, if a tree branch is 50cm or more over your fence line and the branch or branches are no more than 2.5 metres off the ground, you can have them removed by professional arborists.
    • If the branches are higher than 2.5 metres above the ground, you will need to ask your neighbour to have them removed. If they do not comply within 30 days, you are legally allowed to employ professionals to have them removed. You can recover up to $300 for the costs associated from your neighbour. If they do not pay, this can be recovered through the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT).
    • It is always best to try and resolve the situation peacefully, though. Speak to your neighbour first and try to come to a mutually beneficial outcome.
  • Do I need permits from the council to remove tree branches?

    • In some cases, permits will be required, and if trees are pruned or lopped without this permission, heavy fines can apply.
    • We can help with the process of checking with the council to see if there is a tree preservation order on your property or any other situations where a permit may be required.
    • We can then help you with the application and time the work for when the permit(s) have been acquired.
  • How do I know if a tree branch needs removing?

    • In some cases, the answer is obvious. If there have been severe storms and branches are noticeably damaged, they should be removed so they don't become a falling hazard. If the branches are growing into power lines, they will need to be cut back or removed to prevent dangerous situations.
    • You can also have tree branches removed if they are having over your roof or other areas where they have the potential to cause damage or harm.
    • Sometimes, though, the signs are less obvious. A tree branch can decay because of disease, pests or age and can become a falling hazard without you knowing it. If there are cracks or damaged sections of the branch, this could indicate internal decay. It is recommended you have any suspect branches inspected by a tree branch removal service - it's better to be safe than sorry.
